SLC Get Away

Being apart from each other for 9 weeks this summer was hard for both of us, and we wanted to treat ourselves with a 'pat on the back' for making it through. Both of our birthdays were in August, and we also had Corban's job offer to celebrate, so I planned a night out. Corban's dad and his wife live near Salt Lake and were kind enough to watch Pepper overnight. I cannot thank them enough!! Pepper brings us so much joy but there is certainly something to be said for spending 24 hours alone with your spouse:)

Let me start by saying we love Salt Lake! We lived there while we were dating, engaged, and the first year of our marriage, and we miss it all the time. Even though it's only an hour away, we don't make it up there very often mainly due to our sweet Pepper (who is not a fan of her carseat). It was so fun to go back up there for a whole day and do whatever we wanted!

Friday night we ate at Bucca di Beppo-- every time we eat there Corban and I start speaking Italian like this. Ok, not really, but it always makes us wish we could speak Italian. Afterward we hiked Ensign Peak, which was a pretty easy hike and the view at the top was fantastic. We could see all the way to the point of the mountain (Draper/Lehi).

Then we went and saw the movie The Other Guys. I haven't laughed that hard in a movie in a long, long time. A lot of really stupid humor, but we liked it nonetheless. We stayed at the Peery Hotel in Salt Lake City. It's a historic, boutique style hotel with a lot of character and we had a great stay.

Saturday morning we went to get breakfast at Les Madeleines only to find that it was closed for Labor Day weekend.... Oh, disappointment!! I've been wanting to eat there ever since their Kouing Aman was featured on Food Network, but I guess we'll just have to keep waiting. So we settled for a South American bakery down the street. After that we got to spend a few hours in the the Salt Lake Temple. I love going to the temple with Corban!

After the temple, we tried to eat at a couple places for lunch, but kept striking out. What is it with restaurants closing the Saturday before Labor Day??? All in all, we had a marvelous 24 hours and are very, very grateful to Wayne and Susan for being so willing to watch Pepper.

Pepper didn't love the drive home (she never does... sigh...). One of the many things Corban tried to keep her happy with was his sunglasses. It worked for a little bit!

After we got home she wouldn't nap, even though she was realllllly tired. She has a hard time walking straight when she's tired, and she managed to walk into the bedroom door frame. You can see the beginnings of what developed into a nice sized, purple bruise on on her forehead in the pics. Poor baby! She's always really cuddly after she gets hurt. She also loves to play with her belly button and ears when she's drinking her bottle. Love my baby!!

Our getaway was affordable thanks to City Deals. Love that website! Hooray for bargains!!

Look at that face!!! I love backseat riders!!! It just makes the drive so much more enjoyable when you can turn around and look at that! :)

So now that I've actually read the text of this post... :)
That is one reality that has been hitting hard lately -- the fact that you NEED to spend time together away from the kids. (SO happy for you guys!)
We're planning a trip to Zion National Park in May!!! ADULTS ONLY!!! Wait, let me check your counter. (343 days) You SHOULD still be in Utah then, right?? Granted, St. George isn't just down the street from Provo. But we're meeting you halfway! What do you say -- how's about a temple session/lunch date with the Metcalfs in May!!!
